Miles City Soup Kitchen Award

Volunteer Organization Of The Year Award from the Miles City Area Chamber of Commerce

The Soup Kitchen was formed to feed the hungry, lonely, and curious of Miles City and Custer County. 

A very dedicated group of individuals started working toward a Soup Kitchen in April 2009.  Less than 3 years later the Soup Kitchen feeds an average of 45 individuals daily.

The first meeting was coordinated by the Council on Aging Coordinator and there were many people in attendance.  The determined individuals who returned for a second meeting were instrumental in opening the Soup Kitchen November 9, 2010.  The Custer County Community Table/Miles City Soup Kitchen is a 501 c3 formed by a group of individuals the common mission:  to provide healthy and appetizing meals to all in this community who come to us in need….to the poor, the hungry, and the lonely.  Their goal is to provide meals to those who are in need without reference to age, race, sex, or religious affiliation. 

In addition to finding a location and the proper equipment these individuals completed a business plan, wrote bylaws, applied for a received a food handler’s license, completed a volunteer manual, and received their 501 c3 status before opening the doors in one and one half years after the first meeting.

The Soup Kitchen is located in the former VA canteen, which is complete with a kitchen.  The organization is funded totally by donations and grants with the work done by volunteers and one paid employee.
